Some training centers exist primarily to provide preparation for certification tests. There's nothing wrong with that approach, but there is a tendency for such training to be too narrow in its scope. The purpose of a certification exam is to *sample* the candidates knowledge as an indicator of their greater proficiency.

TouchStone Technology entered the training business after the founder, Randy Voshell, had completed a five year stint in information technology management. Randy discovered that job applicants holding expensive certifications weren't necessarily able to apply their knowledge in any practical sense.

TouchStone Technology uses the same course materials that other training companies use. The difference in TouchStone Technology's classes is that the material is used merely as a starting point for more broad discussion, lab experience and discovery, and examination of case studies from students' own experiences.

The courseware is employed by instructors who have current field experience working with the technologies and products that are presented.
